Red Rock Canyon State Park officials have set their schedule of events for April 2019.

Visitors can learn about natural and cultural history and the unique features of Red Rock Canyon State Park on guided walks and talks with knowledgeable docents.

The visitor center is located off Highway 14 22 miles north of Mojave at 37749 Abbot Road in Cantil 93519.

Ricardo Trail, across from the visitor center, is an easy walk on sand.

Park entry fee is $6 per vehicle/$5 with seniors 62 and older on board/$3 with DPR Disabled Discount Pass (please bring exact bills).

Sat., April 6: Docent-led nature walk of the “Ricardo Nature Trail.” Learn about various plants and their flowers along with the small animals and how they adapted to the harsh desert environment. Meet at the Ricardo Trailhead across from the visitor center at 2 p.m.

Sat., April 6: Come and hear a historic presentation about the former Red Rock Railroad. This is a slide presentation about the temporary spur railroad built through Red Rock Canyon during the construction of the LA Aqueduct. Meet in the multipurpose room located in the visitor center at 7 p.m.

Sat., April 13: Docent-led nature walk titled “A Walk Through Time”. You will gain information about weather changes, extinct and present wildlife, Native American uses of plants, and geological makeup of Red Rock Canyon. Meet at the Ricardo Trailhead across from the visitor center at 2 p.m.

Sat., April 13: “Reading Stories in Stone.” Discover the geological makeup of Red Rock Canyon. Learn how the park was formed with the amazing colors you see. Meet in the multipurpose room in the visitor center at 7 p.m.

Sat., April 20: “Beginning Birder Workshop” – Begins at 9:00 am in the visitor center. This will be a two-part program. The first part consists of training towards general recognition of birds and their calls. The second part will be two-plus hours of going out and observing the various birds within the park. Participants can decide how long they want to tag along during the second part. It is highly recommended the participants bring binoculars and cameras. Because it may be warm – bottled water and a hat are recommended.

Sat., April 20: “The Many Colors of the Desert.” This is a docent provided presentation as an introduction to the colorful plants and beautiful wildlife found at Red Rock Canyon State Park. Meet in the multipurpose room in the visitor center at 7 p.m.

Sat., April 27: Docent-led nature walk of the Ricardo Nature Trail. Learn about various plants and their flowers along with the small animals and how they adapted to the harsh desert environment. Meet at the Ricardo Trailhead across from the visitor center at 10 a.m.

Sat., April 27: China Lake Astronomical Society will conduct a “Star Party” for viewing planets, constellations and other celestial objects in the night sky through some amazing telescopes. Meet at the visitor center parking lot area beginning at dusk. Arrival is requested before dark, and please turn off main headlights when entering the parking lot.
