[SCV Food Pantry] – No child in the Santa Clarita Valley should ever go to bed hungry. That’s why the volunteers from the Santa Clarita Food work tirelessly to provide supplemental food for families across the valley.
To help accomplish this mission, hundreds of local runners will hit the trail on October 28 at the 19th Annual Run Against Hunger to help fill the pantry’s shelves.
“The SCV Food Pantry serves some 6,000 local clients each year,” says Belinda Crawford, the pantry’s executive director. That translates to approximately 60 to 65 families each day who rely on the SCV Food Pantry to put food on the table. “And 43 percent of our clients are children,” Crawford says.
“The Run Against Hunger is a fun way to raise money for the Pantry, while promoting a healthy lifestyle for residents of Santa Clarita,” Crawford says. “We encourage everyone to sign up and become a part of this local tradition.”
The main run is a 5K that follows the South Fork Trail. “Walkers are welcome to join in the fun, too,” Crawford says. “We also have a 1K Kiddie run.”
All participants receive a T-shirt and goodie bag, plus the chance to do something great for our community. Awards will be presented for the winners in all age categories.
Event sponsors include Bayless Engineering, Inc., Powder Coating Plus and Teague Communications. Affordable sponsorships are still available.
