[KHTS] – Remo Belli, the founder of the drum company Remo, is preparing to donate 30 drums to SCVi Charter School this week for use in K-12 class activities, school officials said.
SCVi students, along with school founder Amber Raskin and Upper School Director Matt Watson will be presented with the drums by Belli himself Tuesday at the iLEAD school’s Santa Clarita location.
“The school is looking forward to the many ways drumming will enhance the SCVi experience,” Raskin said. “Studies have shown for years how rhythm in the classroom helps facilitate the connections learners make in mathematics and language arts.”
Raskin continued, “But equally, if not more important to iLEAD schools are the benefits of developing leadership and increasing the social and emotional growth of learners as they participate in a drumming program.”
Founded in 1957, Remo drums is a “cutting edge” company when it comes to creating instruments that “outpace both technical and musical advantages of any other percussion company,” school officials said.
In an effort to encourage creative expression and reduce stress in people of all ages, the company has also developed a program called Health Rhythms, which is set to be incorporated into iLEAD schools in the coming months.
