Castaic Lake Recreation Area Superintendent Lori Bennett, who has worked for Los Angeles County for 34 years, is retiring and was honored by Supervisor Michael Antonovich on Tuesday.
Bennett began working with the county Department of Parks and Recreation in 1982 and eventually working her way up from Recreation Services Leader, Recreation Services Director, Regional Park Superintendent I and finally, Regional Park Superintendent III, Antonovich said during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
“In that role, she has initiated programs which provide innovative and creative recreational opportunities for the community, including the award-winning full moon kayaking, aquatic adventure camp and moonlight fishing,” he added. “She also implemented the Quagga Mussel Inspection and Education Boat Inspection program which has been very successful in keeping this invasive species out of Castaic Lake.”
During her career, Bennett received the Individual Professional Fellow award from the National Association of County Parks and Recreation and was honored as the Castaic Community Woman of the Year in 2008.
“Lori has established strong relationships with many agencies and organizations including the Friends of Castaic Lake, Castaic Lion’s Club and Castaic Town Council,” Antonovich said. “She also served on the Castaic Area Town Council for four years.”
