The Hart football team remained the No. 1 team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division after another blowout win. The Indians clobbered Santa Monica, 41-7, on Friday night.
The Valencia and Canyon teams dropped in the rankings. The Vikings are No. 7 after a 24-14 loss to Loyola.
Canyon dropped all the way to No. 10 after a 49-49 tie against Steele Canyon from the San Diego Section.
The Trinity football team is holding steady at No. 3 in the Southern Section Division II 8-man poll.
In high school cross country, the Golden Valley boys and girls teams made a clean sweep at the 45th annual Staub/Barnes Invitational at Crescenta Valley Park over the weekend.
The Canyon teams shined as well in one of the most prestigious meets in Southern California.
The Golden Valley boys won the Division I race and had four runners finish in the top 16. The Grizzlies scored 71 points and beat second-place Del Campo from Fair Oaks by 14 points.
Canyon’s Zach Wims won the Division I race in 15 minutes, 33 seconds over the 3-mile course. Golden Valley’s Nolan Del Valle was second. Grizzlies teammate Brendan Tinoco was seventh.
On the girls side, Golden Valley won by one point over host Crescenta Valley. Chelsey Totten was the runner-up in the Division I race, finishing 11 seconds behind race winner Kiara MacIntosh from Paloma Valley.
The Canyon girls were four points behind Golden Valley and finished in third place as a team.
In college cross country, The Master’s College’s John Gilbertson won the 8K men’s race at the Stanford Invitational in 24 minutes, 7 seconds.
The Master’s College men’s team finished in 17th place out of 29 teams at the meet.
In the women’s race, Saugus High graduate Karis Frankian was the highest-finishing runner for The Master’s College in 42ndplace.
The Lady Mustangs were 24th out of 34 teams at the meet.
In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Giants, 3-2, and stayed alive in the wild-card playoff hunt for another day. The Cardinals also won, beating the Reds, 4-2, and are two games ahead of the Dodgers with two games left to play in the season.
The Dodgers need to win again tonight and hope for the Cardinals to lose for a chance at the final playoff spot.
