The Saugus girls volleyball team won the Crescenta Valley Tournament with a two-game sweep over Alta Loma in the championship match.

Hannah Nua was selected as the tournament MVP. Ashley Guthrie and Julianna Dole earned spots on the all-tournament team.

The Saugus girls went 5-0 in the tournament.

The Valencia girls beat Oaks Christian in three games to take fifth place in the Redondo Power Classic.

Delaney Knudsen was selected to the all-tournament team. Valencia went 5-1 in the 32-team tournament.

In college cross country, the University of Colorado men and the University of Oregon women won the Pac-12 championship meets at Robinson Ranch.

Two runners from the Santa Clarita Valley competed in the first Pac-12 championship meet held at the course around Robinson Ranch in Canyon Country.

Arizona sophomore and Saugus High graduate Stephanie Bulder was 35th in the women’s 6K race. She completed the course in 21 minutes, 20 seconds.

UCLA’s Jennifer Owen, a West Ranch High grad, was 104th in the women’s race.

Arizona’s Lawi Lalang won the men’s race in 22 minutes, 49 seconds and won his second Pac-12 championship in a row.

Stanford’s Kathy Kroeger won the women’s race in 20 minutes, 6 seconds.

In high school football, Hart dropped to No. 3 and Valencia moved up to No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll.

Palmdale, ranked No. 1 in the Northern Division, is the only undefeated team in the top 10.

Valencia beat Hart, the previous No. 1 team in the Northern Division, 31-20, on Friday night.

Canyon dropped a spot to No. 9 despite beating West Ranch, 41-34.

The Trinity football team stayed at No. 4 in the Southern Section Division II 8-man poll. The Knights beat Lancaster Baptist to wrap up the Heritage League championship.

In basketball, the Lakers start the NBA season against the Dallas Mavericks at Staples Center tonight.

Kobe Bryant is nursing a bruised foot and might not start in the season opener. His status for the game will be a game-time decision.
