[KHTS] – The Canyon High School boys basketball team easily downed Morse from San Diego, 72-55, in the College of the Canyons Showcase on Saturday.
Ben Taufahema scored 25 points and hit seven 3-pointers to lead Canyon. He also had 12 rebounds.
Marc Cabrera scored 16 points and had nine assists.
Four Canyon players scored in double figures. Canyon improved to 14-1.
In other action at the College of the Canyons Showcase, Hart beat University from Los Angeles, 67-45, and won its 12th game in a row. The Indians are 13-1.
The Valencia boys beat Roosevelt from Fresno, 87-70.
The Santa Clarita Christian boys beat Marshall from Pasadena, 61-32.
The West Ranch boys basketball team lost to Chaminade, 76-48, on Friday night.
Chaminade is ranked No. 9 in the state by Max Preps and improved to 12-1. West Ranch has played six teams ranked in the Max Preps top 25 in the state and dropped to 5-8.
In high school soccer, the Golden Valley girls played to a scoreless draw against Cleveland from Reseda in the Valley College tournament.
Golden Valley has not given up a goal in the tournament and has not lost a game in the tournament.
The Golden Valley girls are 7-1-2 after their first 10 games.
In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets, 137-115. Pau Gasol scored 25 points, had 10 rebounds and was the focus of trade rumors after the game again.
The Lakers have lost seven of their past eight games and dropped to 14-20 on the season.
Next up for the Lakers are the Timberwolves in Minnesota on Tuesday night.
