Firefighters continued battling the Saddleridge Fire over the weekend as wind speed decreased, and the blaze was 43% contained as of 7 a.m. Monday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Smoke from the brush fire continued to cause unhealthy air in the area. A Los Angeles County Department of Public Health smoke advisory for the Santa Clarita Valley remains in effect until Monday night.
The advisory also includes the San Gabriel Mountains and the east and west San Fernando Valley.
Held at 7,965 acres burned between Sylmar and the Porter Ranch-Chatsworth area since Thursday, the Saddleridge Fire is blamed for the death of one person who suffered a heart attack. The three firefighters sustained minor injuries.
Seventeen structures were destroyed and another 58 structures damaged.
All affected highways have been reopened and evacuation centers closed. However, a section of the Angeles National Forest remains closed. Get more info here.

Approximately 1,000 personnel from various agencies remain assigned to fighting the fire.
The plan for Monday, according to the LAFD:
“Firefighters will take advantage of lower wind speeds, increasing humidity and decreased temperatures. This weather will greatly enhance firefighters’ ability to mop up remaining hot spots. Tactical patrols will continue throughout the day to ensure containment lines remain static and smoldering debris remains isolated from unburned vegetation.”
The cause of the Saddleridge Fire, which started at 9:02 a.m. Thursday near the 210 Freeway and Yarnell Street, remains under investigation.
The Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service are in unified command of the firefighting effort. Participating agencies include CAL FIRE, L.A. Emergency Management Department, L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks, L.A. Department of Water and Power (DWP), SoCal Gas, California Highway Patrol, L.A. County Public Health Department, L.A. City Department of Animal Services, American Red Cross, Los Angeles County Public Works and Southern California Edison.
