[KHTS] – An official with the Coroner’s Office identified the victim Tuesday in a fatal, single-car crash off San Francisquito Canyon Road.
Procoro Hernandez, 39, was killed when his car crashed off the side of San Francisquito Canyon Road. A coroner’s official did not have a city of identification listed.
Fire Department officials responded to a call of a car over the side of the road near San Francisquito Canyon Road and Dry Gulch around 6:30 p.m., said Supervisor Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Hernandez was driving a 2003 ford F250 with a trailer southbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road, north of Stator Lane, according to a collision report.
For unknown reasons, Hernandez’ vehicle drifted into the right dirt shoulder and he lost control. The truck spun across the northbound lane and over the embankment. The truck rolled several times, ultimately killing Hernandez.
The coroner listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma from the crash, according to Lt. Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Emergency personnel, including members of the Santa Clarita Valley’s Search and Rescue Team, worked for nearly an hour to try to rescue a man trapped in his vehicle, Pittman said.
Hernandez, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was declared dead at 7:19 p.m., he said.
Traffic was both north- and southbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road was stopped for several hours Friday night while the body was recovered.
CHP officials are investigating the crash and have not identified whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
