In the spirit of back-to-school, the Santa Clarita Public Library will offer free educational events in September at each Library branch. Residents of all ages are invited to sign up for a variety of unique, science-focused, engaging and interactive programs headed to the Santa Clarita Public Library, including:
· Curiosity Course – On September 8, 15 and 22 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library, this three-session course will encourage families to work together as a team to tackle complex engineering challenges, think creatively, devise solutions and make redesigns. Registration is required and available at SantaClaritaPublicLibrary.com. The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 24500 Main Street.
· Science Club – On September 17 from 5:00 .m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Canyon Country Library, school-age kids can take part in fun, hands-on science activities with an emphasis on physics, astronomy, architecture and problem solving.
The Canyon Country Library is located at 18601 Soledad Canyon Road.
· Diggin’ for Dinosaurs – On September 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Valencia Library, kids in Grades K-3rd can explore the enormous world of dinosaurs. Dig for dinosaur bones, see how big dinosaur feet actually were, and look at real fossils. Registration is required and available at SantaClaritaPublicLibrary.com. The Valencia Library is located at 23743 West Valencia Boulevard.
· CalTech Earthquake Seminar – On September 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library, join Caltech Administrator Margaret Vinci for a free presentation on the different magnitudes, threats and warning systems associated with natural disasters. No registration is required.
· Paleontology Workshop for Tweens – On September 24 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Valencia Library, kids in 4th – 6th grades can explore the world of Paleontology with crafts and projects focused on dinosaurs.
