Crime Impact Team deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested four people in a crime suppression sweep in Stevenson Ranch, Newhall and Valencia Thursday night, according to authorities.

Here’s the story from the station’s social media:

“Drugs, Thefts & Arrests — Crime Impact Team deputies led a crime suppression operation in areas of Stevenson Ranch, Newhall and Valencia Thursday night.

“Concerns over recent spikes in thefts propelled the team’s deployment.

“By the end of the night, the CIT Team had three encounters, netting four arrests.

“Deputies made contact with a man and woman from Canyon Country in the Stevenson Ranch business district. The couple admitted to deputies that they make trips to stores to shoplift so that they can get money to support their heroin habit.

“Their routine included looking for discarded shopping receipts in nearby trash cans, and then stealing items to return for cash.

“Both the man and woman had combined warrants for over $100K in the system for narcotics and had stolen goods within their possession.

“One of the deputies commented the woman ‘had nearly 100 shopping receipts she’d collected.’

“***NOTE TO PUBLIC: PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR STORE RECEIPTS IN SHOPPING CARTS; DO NOT DISCARD IN TRASH CANS NEAR STORES, WHERE THEY MAY BE SUBJECT TO MISUSE.

“In Newhall, as CIT team deputies were observing activities, they ran across a known individual on parole for assault with a deadly weapon. They arrested the 48-year-old man on ID theft charges, a parole violation and a warrant.

“On a separate encounter, deputies arrested a 29-year-old known gang member on narcotics charges.

“SCV Sheriff’s (deputies) will continue to run operations like this one over the course of the next several weeks in efforts to catch crooks ‘when they least (expect) it.’”
