Summer’s here, school is out, and deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are citing juveniles in the city of Santa Clarita who are out in public past 10 p.m. for curfew violations.
Here’s the story from the station’s social media:
“When it’s after 10 p.m., do you know where your children are?
“To help keep our streets safe, there is a curfew ordinance in the city of Santa Clarita. This curfew helps protect our youth from becoming victims of crime or becoming involved in criminal activity themselves.
“During summer months, deputies see an increase in curfew violations.
“(Tuesday) around 12:10 a.m. deputies cited two teens, ages 15 and 17, for violating the curfew ordinance.
“On Sunday around 4:25 a.m., deputies cited a group of youths for curfew violation, the youngest being only 11 years old.
“The curfew, which applies to those 17 years of age and younger, makes it unlawful for any minor to remain upon any public street, public building, place of amusement or eating place, vacant lot, or unsupervised place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
“An exception to this requirement is if the minor is engaged in an employment activity, or going to or from work.
“We want to encourage parents to take responsibilities for their children’s whereabouts. We want to keep the community safe, and our youth safe.”

What can I do as a citizen to report curfew violation without the juivial knowing that I am reporting them.

Uhh is right! Loud and disruptive parties or loud music in the Las Ventanas neighborhood should stop between 10:00 pm until 7:00 am on weekdays and 11:00 pm until 8:00 am or 9 am on the weekends.

Agree. My 17 year old won’t be 18 until October. She’ll be heading off to college next month. So does seem a bit early.

William Berndt I guess I am old school but even my very own grandkids I can’t believe how they make all the rules. I remember my dad telling me I was too lenient with my kids and didn’t think their opinion should be considered …really came back to haunt me with my out of control ..control of the household situation……with my grandchildren…….wow!!!!!!

Kids should not have options or opinions. They should be told what to do, where to go and how to do it. It teaches structure and discipline. Two things 80% of kids lack these days, amongst a laundry list of other things

Take a look, it says “Unsupervised” kids should not be running the streets at night. they get into trouble or hurt. Parents give your kids attention and supervision!!
They should come over to Newhall where kids are wondering around at 3AM!
