So you wanna be a rock ’n’ roll star? (Cue The Byrds!) This is the final week for aspiring young musicians to sign up for the GigMasterz rock school at Keyboard Galleria on Soledad Canyon Road.
If you aren’t playing guitar, bass, keyboards or drums in a band, here’s a great opportunity to learn from the pros. Guitar ace and Gigmasterz instructor David Lemasters will guide you and your new bandmates through the course. Graduation includes a live performance, so you get to rock out on the Gigmasterz stage in front of your fans. By the way, popular Santa Clarita Valley alt-rockers The Narwhals (formerly The Feaver) came out of the GigMasterz school of rock. They’ve done pretty well so far, and you could be next.
To sign up for the next session, call Dennis Weber at Keyboard Galleria at 661-259-5397 or visit the music center’s website.
On Friday night, SCV teen pop-rock band Breaking 27 plays an all-ages show at the world-famous Whisky on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. The quintet features Dakota on lead vocals, Garret and Ryan playing guitars, Jace on bass and Max behind the drums.
Ryan and his sister Emily were guests on SCVTV’s “House Blend” show hosted by yours truly in Season 2 (2011) and again in Season 4 (2014).
Tickets for Breaking 27 at the Whisky are just $10. Call 310-652-4202 or visit the joint’s website.
On Saturday night, SCV Americana singer-songwriter-guitarist Pat Nason, another “House Blend” alum, will host a showcase at the Universal Bar & Grill in
Universal City.
Joining Nason are local musicians Landon Argabrite (guitar/vocals), Matt Bunsen (bass/vocals), David Fry (guitar) and Adam Steinberg (drums). They’ll feature a set of excellent originals (including songs from Nason’s solo EP and his “All the Time in the World” album with bandmates The Regular Crew), plus a few choice covers.
The show starts at 7 p.m. with openers Doug & Rich ̶ Doug Conlon and Richard Marchetta. Singer Debbie Hennessey takes the stage at 9, Nason and crew perform at 10 and Katherine Terrien plays at 11, followed by an open jam. All that for a ridiculously low $5 cover charge. For more details, call 818-766-2114 or check out the Facebook event page.
On a programming note, SCVTV will feature an encore broadcast of the “House Blend” show featuring Pat Nason & The Regular Crew Saturday night at 10.
You can see it on SCVTV in the Santa Clarita Valley and Orange Counties and streaming everywhere at scvtv.com.
