Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley is inviting the Santa Clarita community to join them for National Boys & Girls Club Week, which ends Friday.
This special celebration offers the general public the opportunity to experience the life changing programs the Boys & Girls Club offers to children and teens in Santa Clarita. As part of the week, 4,300 Boys & Girls Clubs across America and on U.S. military installations worldwide will host celebrations featuring the many ways that Boys & Girls Clubs is a place to become, helping kids reach their full potential through outcome driven programs that focus on encouraging youth to make healthy choices, build strong character and succeed academically. Join us at the James T. Ventress Clubhouse in Newhall (24909 Newhall Ave.) at 4pm for a special one-hour event to learn more about the Boys & Girls Club.
“Day in and day out, our Boys & Girls Club staff and mentors deliver quality experiences that make a difference in a youth’s life beyond their time at the Club. Research shows that kids who have an optimal experience at our Clubs are also more likely to have positive self-esteem, volunteer, and be engaged in school,” said Matthew Nelson, Chief Executive Officer. “National Boys & Girls Club Week is a special time when we welcome the community to witness the amazing impact Clubs have on the lives of kids and teens.”

2018 is an especially important year to celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week as the organization celebrates its 50th Anniversary. It was some 20 years before the City of Santa Clarita was a city. Many young families had chosen the Newhall-Saugus area to put down roots because of affordable housing, which the area had in droves. What the community was lacking, was recreational and after-school activities for children. Thanks to a small group of community members, the Boys Club of Newhall-Saugus was formed in 1968. Since that day the club has had locations all over Santa Clarita, held 46 auctions, raised millions of dollars for programming and operations, changed the official name from Boys Club of Newhall-Saugus to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, built two full service facilities, but most importantly, has provided valuable resources, programming, educational and social opportunities for tens of thousands of children and teens. All this adds up to a stronger and safer community, with responsible youth headed for a bright future.
Founded in 1968, the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley provides a second home, academic support, and build leaders for over 5,000 local youth. Membership is just $60 a year (scholarships available) for the first child and $45 for each additional sibling.
