headline

[KHTS] – The Santa Clarita Valley is home to many celebrities, including Olympic ice skating medalist Lloyd Eisler and the original “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer,” actress Kristy Swanson.

kristswansonThe SCV has long served as Hollywood’s “backlot” with film and television productions using the streets, neighborhoods and canyons of the SCV as backdrops to everything from “Star Trek” to “24.”

Celebrities throughout the years, like Western silent film star William S. Hart, film star Harry Carey, Jr., Cheryl Ladd of “Charlie’s Angels,” Linda Gray of “Dallas,” Rick Hearst of “General Hospital” and “Twilight’s” Taylor Lautner, have called the SCV home.

Swanson, a resident of the SCV since 2009, is probably best known for her starring role in the 1992 film “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Other film projects have included “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Flowers in the Attic,” “Big Daddy” and “Dude, Where’s my Car?” She has also worked extensively on television, recently on the USA series “Psych,” and has more than three dozen movies to her credit.

She was nominated in 2011 for the Grace Award for Most Inspiring Performance by the Movieguide Awards for her starring role in film “What If…”

Her latest film, “A Lesson in Romance,” starring Swanson and Scott Grimes, will air at 3 p.m. Saturday on the Hallmark Channel. The Hallmark Channel original movie is about a mother (Swanson) seeking to reconnect with her family by enrolling with them in college.

Swanson will also star in “Beethoven’s Treasure Tail” to be shown “on demand pay-per-view” on cable and satellite providers and released on DVD. The film is from Universal Studios Home Entertainment and is the eighth in the “Beethoven” series featuring the large, loveable St. Bernard, Beethoven. The film stars Swanson, Jonathan Silverman and Morgan Fairchild and will be released this summer.

Swanson recently completed filming on “Merry Ex-Mas,” a film shot for Starz Movie Channel and ION TV. The film stars Swanson and Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.”) It will premiere later this year during the holiday season.

Fine art model

Last week Swanson worked as a model for artist David Uhl. Uhl’s fine art includes many paintings of motorcycles. Swanson dressed up in a “Steampunk” costume for her photo shoot for Uhl. He will craft a piece of fine art from the photos. His prints can fetch more than $2,000 at original release prices.

“He is an amazing artist,” said Swanson. “His work is gorgeous. I wish I owned one of each of his works.”

The painting which features Swanson will be unveiled at the end of June and also featured at the 74th Annual Sturgis, S.D. Motorcycle Rally in August.

Entrepreneur

In addition to her film, television and model work Swanson has entered the ranks of entrepreneurs with aDRESSitGOLF apparel, a stylish line of golf wear for women.

Swanson works the creative side of the company while Eisler works the corporate side of the venture as CEO.

Swanson describes herself as a “casual golfer” and participates in a number of charity fundraisers and celebrity tournaments each year. In March 2012 at the Murray Bros. Caddyshack Celebrity Golf Classic she decided she wanted to wear something other than “a man’s polo shirt that is bright pink and called ladies golf wear.”

She grabbed an Eva Varro dress from her closet and wore it to the tournament.

“People went crazy, the men and the women all loved the idea,” Swanson said.

The result was aDRESSitGOLF.

Fitting her new venture into her hectic life as a wife and mother hasn’t been easy, said Swanson. But after two years of working with Varro to design and manufacture the apparel aDRESSitGOLF is now available online atwww.adressitgolf.com.

For individuals wanting to “shop local” aDRESSitGOLF apparel is manufactured in Los Angeles and the company website features photos of the clothing shot at Tournament Players Club in Valencia and featuring local models. The company is headquartered in Valencia.

Swanson said it was important to her that the clothing fit a variety of body types and sizes.

“I wanted clothes that are stylish, comfortable and fun to wear,” she said. “I’m in my 40s, I’m a mom and there are parts of my body that have changed. I like that I can wear something that is flattering and comfortable.”

Prices are competitive with men’s golf wear, said Swanson.

The line includes long and short dresses, long-sleeved, cap sleeved and sleeveless pieces for wear before, during and after golf in a variety of colors and patterns. Three of the dresses are reversible and the collection also includes leggings and belts.

“These are dresses you can wear on the golf course or to lunch or dinner,” said Swanson. “You can travel with these clothes, you can wash them in the sink at the hotel and they dry like a bathing suit. They are easy to take care of.”

Swanson said the clothes are “comfortable, they breathe and move with you and dry quickly.”

“I like that when I am wearing the clothes I don’t feel restricted, nothing ‘pulls’ at me,” she said.

Eisler and Swanson moved to the SCV in 2009 and have lived in Saugus and Valencia. They have one son, Magnus, 7.

Swanson said she “loves” living in the SCV. “It’s a great place to live and the schools are wonderful,” she said.
