The West Ranch girls won the first Foothill League golf match of the season by seven strokes over Golden Valley, the surprise runner-up, at El Cariso Golf Course in Sylmar.

Golden Valley’s Elisa Pierre and Hart’s Jamie Corr shot the low rounds of the day, even-par 31s.

West Ranch’s Josie Lionetii and Sarah Hong each shot 2-over 33s to lead the Wildcats.

Golden Valley’s Amanda Hobbs was 7-over 38 and teammate Illeana Dullas shot an 8-over 39 in the nine-hole match.

In college volleyball, The Master’s College women swept Hope International in three games.

Sam Dougherty recorded a team-high 15 kills and 13 digs for the Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA.

In high school tennis, Hart beat reigning Foothill League champion West Ranch, 12-6, in the league opener. Hart’s No. 1 singles player Jackie Resler won her sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.

The Valencia girls shut out Saugus, 18-0. Valencia’s No. 1 player Brigitta Benitez won all her sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0.

In high school volleyball, Hart beat Buena in four games on the road. Kathryn Cambra had 18 kills to lead the Indians. Amy King chipped in with 14 kills.

The West Ranch girls swept Frontier from Bakersfield in three games. Sarah McGough had 13 kills and four blocks for the Wildcats.

The Saugus girls lost to Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks in five games. Hannah Nua led the Centurions with 27 kills. Saugus won the first two sets of the match, but lost the next three, including 15-9 in the fifth set.

The Trinity Classical Academy girls team beat Ribet Academy in five games. Julia Howell had 18 kills for Trinity.

The Dodgers were rained out in Washington, D.C. last night.

The Dodgers and Nationals will play a doubleheader today. Aaron Harang and Josh Beckett are scheduled to be the starters for the Dodgers.

The Nationals will go with Jordan Zimmerman and John Lannan. The first game is set to start at 1 p.m.
