[KHTS – Jessica Lynn] Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging officials are hosting the Senior Center Golf Classic on Sept. 15 at Tournament Players Club Valencia in order to fundraise for the organization, said Linda Lieblang, associate executive director of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.
The event was formerly known as Summer Showdown.
Registration for the event is expected to begin at 7:30 a.m. and the tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
“The mission of the Santa Clarita Valley Center is to help keep seniors independent and dignified, in their own homes, for as long as possible,” according to the organization’s website.
“The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center enhances independence, dignity and quality of life through community resource management and coordination, advocacy and a full spectrum of direct quality services.”
The event will include an 18 hole game, as well as food from Egg Plantation, Salt Creek Grille and Pieology, Lieblang said.
The top three foursomes in the tournament will be awarded with trophies.
Attendees are expected to receive $50 spending credit at Titleist Golf Shop and have the chance to win a Nissan Sentra during the event’s hole-in-one contest.
Admission to the event for individuals is regularly $250; however, due to a discount, valid beginning Monday until Friday, individual tickets will cost $200 next week, Lieblang said.
Admission to the event for foursomes is $800.
The SCV Senior Center serves an annual average of 50,000 meals to seniors at the SCV Senior Center and 70,000 meals to homebound seniors.
Last year, SCV Senior Center staff and volunteers made more than 10,000 reassurance telephone calls to homebound seniors and provided over 46,000 low-cost bus rides and emergency taxi rides to seniors who would otherwise be alone and isolated from friends and services in the community.
