A woman was barricaded in Castaic after allegedly firing shots at deputies from a residence on Castaic Road late Friday afternoon, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.
The station sent the following news alert at 5 p.m.:
“Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) Deputies are responding to the 31000 block of Castaic Road, in Castaic, regarding a barricaded shooting suspect.
“On Friday, Sept. 14, at approximately 4 p.m., deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were at the location conducting a check the welfare call for service, when the suspect fired what appeared to be an unknown number of shots from inside of the location.
“Deputies are attempting to make contact with the suspect at this time to bring this to a peaceful resolution.
“There is no additional information available at this time.”
“Still holding, doing evacuations, and still trying to make contact with the person inside the location,” Sgt. Wayne Waterman, SCV Sheriff’s Station Watch Commander, said at 5:20 p.m.
“We’re moving people out of the building where the shots were fired,” Waterman said. “I believe it’s retirement center. They’re moving the residents of the assisted living apartments to a secured location inside the facility.”
In addition to Special Enforcement Bureau deputies, “We have a mental health team responding and some of our other deputies from the station,” Waterman said.
This is a developing story. Updates will be added as available.
