The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $9.6 million contract with Perera Construction & Design Inc. to build the first phase of a state-of the-art aquatic center at the Castaic Regional Sports Complex, County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich announced Tuesday.

The 3.5-acre facility will include a 25-meter recreational pool for competitive swim training, a 21-foot by 75-foot shallow pool, and a “splash pad” play area for children as well as a 12,500-square-foot pool building and recreation office, granite walkways, and a 65-car parking lot.

Phase 1 will take approximately 20 months to build and is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2013.  Operated by County Department of Parks and Recreation, the complex will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and hours may be extended for special events and private parties.
