Three turnovers in the third quarter turned out to be the difference in the game as the Saugus Centurions defeated the Hart Indians 24-10 Friday night in Foothill League football.
The game was televised by SCVTV.
After a 0-0 halftime scored, both teams traded punts to start the third quarter. But Hart’sTim White fumbled the Saugus punt for the game’s first turnover. The Centurions came to life and marched 52 yards, paid off at the end by an eight-yard touchdown pass from Jared Carbajal to Zack Garcia. The extra point was missed.
On the ensuing kickoff, Griffin Scott fumbled the pooch kick, giving the Centurions the ball again. This time slot back Quentin Hendrix, the U.S. Army Player of the Game, ran nine yards for the touchdown. After a two-point conversion, Saugus (4-3, 1-1) led 14-0.
On the next possession, Hart (5-2, 1-1) quarterback Cory Mayes was intercepted by Chris Hamilton. A 29-yard field goal by Angie Weiner capped off the drive.

In the fourth, Carbajal closed out the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Cody Taylor on 4th and three.
Hendrix finished with 96 yards rushing and was chosen the U.S. Army Player of the Game for his efforts. Carbajal was 4-of-7 passing for 51 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 71 yards.
Hart rotated their two quarterbacks, with senior Cory Mays getting the start and sophomore Connor Wingenroth playing an equal amount. Mays finished 3-of-6 for nine yards and an interception, while Wingenroth was 4-of-12 for 122 yards. He also ran for 38 yards and a touchdown.
The bright spot for Hart was running back Dylan Edwards who had 102 yards in the first half alone. The senior running back finished with 119 yards on 20 carries.
