[KHTS] – The “Neighborhood Watch” on Santa Clarita Valley’s hometown station, KHTS AM-1220, is featuring two prominent Sheriff’s Department officials for its lineup of guests in April.

On Thursday, the show, which is hosted by the radio station’s news director Perry Smith, will feature a live interview with Sheriff’s Department Commander Mike Parker.

Two weeks later, the show is scheduled to feature an interview with Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Capt. Roosevelt Johnson. Both shows will also feature Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Prevention Unit as in-studio guest.

“Neighborhood Watch” airs every first and third Thursday of the month from 10-11 a.m. on KHTS AM-1220, which can also be streamed live through the KHTS mobile app, or athometownstation.com.

Parker plays an integral role in the Sheriff’s Department’s evolving online and social media presence.

The commander also has taught countless courses to other law enforcement officials addressing the ever-changing concerns and opportunities online communities represent.

He’s watched as the mentality has changed from “Why do I need to do this” to “how can we get this done,” among the law enforcement and emergency-management community, over the last few years, he said.

“We’ve taught that to more than 1,000 peace officers, conservatively, to 150 police agencies from six countries,” Parker said in an interview with KHTS AM-1220 last year. “We’re not saying we know everything — we’re just willing to share what we do know.”

On Thursday, April 17, the show will feature an interview with an interview with Johnson, who was appointed captain to replace Capt. Paul Becker at the beginning of March.

Johnson, a longtime Santa Clarita Valley resident, began his career in the Sheriff’s Department at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic.

In his most recent post before coming back to the Santa Clarita Valley, he was a division aide to Chief Neal Tyler, then former Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Capt. Anthony LaBerge, who was promoted from commander to chief, after leaving his SCV post.

Becker was a member of the department for more than 30 years before retiring in February. Lt. Robert Lewis, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s operations lieutenant, was the acting captain from October to March.

The show comes amid two workshops being offered by the Sheriff’s Station, which are aimed at educating parents about a variety of potential concerns for teens, from drugs to sexting to social media.

Dubin, who handles most of the Sheriff’s Station’s social media outreach, is hosting the digitally focused workshop, which will also feature a question-and-answer session for Santa Clarita Valley parents.

Johnson’s goal for his first 90 days include not only meeting with his staff of more than 240 deputies, but also getting input from community stakeholders, everyone from residents to superintendents and other officials, he said.

“We all have to work together to solve crime in this community,” he said.
