Mayor Pro tem Marsha McLean, chair of the SCV Senior Center’s Touch-A-Truck Committee, climbs aboard a Los Angeles Fire Department emergency vehicle bulldozer with the dozer crew at Fire Station 156 on Copper Hill in Valencia. A number of emergency vehicles will be on display at the family- friendly event June 14.
In a community calendar full of fund-raising walks, auctions, dinners and golf tournaments, the SCV Senior Center has come up with a totally new idea with its second annual Touch-A-Truck event.
What child, or adult for that matter, wouldn’t want to climb on a fire engine, turn on a Sheriff’s or CHP vehicle siren or take a photo with a favorite movie vehicle? That’s the premise behind Touch-A-Truck, coming Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Central Park on Bouquet Canyon Road.
Admission will be a family-friendly $5 per person, with fathers who accompany their children admitted free in honor of the Fathers’ Day weekend. All proceeds will benefit the SCV Senior Center, which offers such programs as Home Delivered Meals, Senior Respite Day Care and Care Management to local seniors.
“Kids love vehicles,” commented City Mayor Pro tem Marsha McLean, who is once again serving as the event chair, “and now they will be able to touch their favorite things on wheels.” She noted that the event will offer a close-up look at a cavalcade of construction rigs, fire engines, sheriff’s cars, military vehicles, film industry vehicles, and “nearly anything you can think of!” McLean concluded.
Food trucks will offer meals and delicious treats to purchase. Trucks already committed include Don Chow’s Tacos, Baby’s Burgers, The Mighty Boba truck, and Noodle Nation. Sweets will be offered by the Shave It mobile ice van, featuring shave ice and ice cream.
Entertainment will include magic shows and up-close magic by members of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, visits with costumed characters, games and prizes, kid-friendly activities and vendors with boutique items for sale.
Sponsorships and boutique booth spaces are still available and donations are encouraged. Further information and registration forms are available from Pam Kile at the SCV Senior Center, (661) 259-9444, extension 141.
