L.A. County firefighters got a quick handle on two blazes that broke out Monday afternoon in the Santa Clarita Valley.
A brush fire in Val Verde was held to 4.7 acres while a separate, quarter-acre fire was doused in Castaic.
There were no injuries from either incident, and no structures were threatened.
“We had a 5-acre fire on Madison Way and Chiquita Canyon Road,” said Fire Inspector Kyle Sanford.
“We have a hose-line around the fire,” he added, noting that there were no longer open flames and the brush was being surrounded by fire crews.
“They’re just going to do mop-up,” Sanford added.
The Val Verde incident was reported at 1:35 p.m. and knocked down at 2:40 p.m., he said.
The Castaic incident was reported at Parker Road and Nicholas Lane, Sanford said.
There were no open flames for that incident as of 2:23 p.m. Monday.
