Alison Lee, a senior at Valencia High School, won the PING Invitational golf tournament at the Karsten Creek course in Stillwater, Okla., on Sunday.
Lee won her second American Junior Golf Association tournament of the year with a 3-over par, 75, in the third and final round.
She entered the final round tied with Annie Park of Levittown, N.Y., at 3-under. Lee made eight pars on the front nine and had a four-shot lead at the turn.
“Today the conditions were really tough, the holes were in a lot of tough positions, so it was definitely frustrating for a lot of us out there, but I tried as hard as I could to keep calm,” Lee told the AJGA.
Park made three birdies on the back nine to catch Lee with three holes to play. But Park made a double-bogey on No. 16 and gave Lee a two-shot lead with two holes to play.
“Even though I had a two-stroke lead coming into the last two holes, I knew anything could happen,” Lee said. “There have been a few times where I had been in the lead and gotten ahead of myself and lost. Every tournament you learn something new and I was able to use everything I learned from the past and be successful this time.”
Lee made par on the 18th hole to win the tournament by two strokes. She who the 2012 ANNIKA Invitational and has six career AJGA victories.
