Sophomore Kyra Banko was recently selected to the USA Volleyball High Performance A2 indoor team.

The Village Christian girls’s volleyball program is set to gain another elite outside hitter this fall.

Kyra Banko, an incoming sophomore, was a six-rotation player for her club team, San Gabriel Elite 15 Roshambo, helping lead them to a third-place finish in Southern California and a 15th place finish in the Open Division at the USA Volleyball Junior Nationals in Dallas, TX earlier this month.

Banko is a dynamic, go-to hitter, who will have an immediate impact on the Crusaders’ volleyball program. She was recently selected to the USA Volleyball High Performance A2 indoor team, and the Beach High Performance A3 team. She will be spending a week at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA this summer training on the beach at the A3 High Performance camp.

As the director of the volleyball program at Village Christian, Bill Schnobrich commented,“Kyra is an amazing athlete and a great teammate. She is a very driven competitor. Her work ethic and passion for the game are contagious. She’s also an outstanding student and a wonderful young lady who will have a positive impact on the school. We are thrilled to have Kyra part of our team. She’s the type of athlete that can take our program to the next level.”

Kyra shared her enthusiasm about her transfer by saying, “I’m very excited about making the move from a large public high school to Village Christian where I already feel like I’m part of a family. I believe the Concentration program, the great curriculum and the Christian foundation will challenge me both academically and spiritually. As for my athletic side, I’m eager to get on the volleyball court with my new Crusader teammates and deliver a CIF girls’s volleyball championship to Village Christian and while we’re at it, an AAU Interscholastic beach championship on the sand would just be icing on the cake!”
