Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder County Clerk Dean C. Logan announced the results Tuesday of the friendly voter registration competition between crosstown rivals USC and UCLA.
The university that brought in the most voter registration applications was UCLA with a total of 10,109 students. USC registered a total of 411 students.
“Not only is UCLA now a more politically engaged campus, but it has also triumphed over its crosstown rival! We look forward to continuing to work with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/Counter Clerk’s office, as promoting civic engagement is just as important for non-presidential elections,” said Yara Hejazi, Executive Director of Vote for Our Future at UCLA.
Both schools had a goal of 17,000 new voter registration applications during the past month. Each school promoted the effort via social media with hashtags #TrojansVote and #BruinsVote along with hosting on-campus activities before the close of registration on Monday, October 24.
“We are proud of everyone’s efforts for a worthy cause,” said Erika Maldonado of the University of Southern California.
As of today there are nearly 5.2 million registered voters in Los Angeles County.
“The surge in voter registration is encouraging, and we hope to see every eligible voter making their mark in this election,” said Dean Logan, Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters.
The mission of the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk is to serve Los Angeles County by providing essential records management and election services in a fair, accessible and transparent manner. For more information, visit lavote.net and follow us on Twitter @LACountyRRCC.
