John F. Powell

Los Angeles Dodgers logoThe Los Angeles Dodgers won their second straight game and took the series from the San Diego Padres following a 6-4 victory Sunday afternoon.

Los Angeles has gone 16-0-3 in its last 19 series and have not lost a series since June 5-7 against the Nationals.

The Boys in Blue improved their Major League best home record to 49-14 (.778) and have won 10 of their last 11 games at Chavez Ravine.

o The Dodger offense struck out a season-low two times in today’s contest (previous low: 4, 2x, June 10 vs. CIN).

· The Padres dropped their second consecutive game and fell to 3-7 as they closed out their 10-game road trip to Pittsburgh (1-2), Cincinnati (1-3) and Los Angeles (1-2). San Diego has lost 12 of its last 18 games on the road and are now 3-9 against the Dodgers this year.

DODGER NOTES:
· Kenta Maeda recorded his 11th win of the season in his 19th start of the year and also recorded his seventh consecutive victory at home after allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits in 5.1 innings with a season-high tying eight strikeouts (3x, last: May 5 at SD).

Maeda becomes just the fifth Dodger to win seven or more straight home starts within a season in the past 40 years, joining Zack Greinke (8, 2015), Clayton Kershaw (8, 2011), Kevin Brown (7, 2003) and Ramon Martinez (7, 1990).

During that stretch, Maeda has posted a 2.53 ERA (12 ER/42.2 IP) and has held hitters to a .215 average, while striking out 40 against just eight walks.

· In his last five games since the All-Star break, Maeda has gone 4-0 with a 1.98 ERA (6 ER/27.1 IP) and has struck out 27 against just six walks, while holding the opposition to a .196 average.

· The Dodger offense put up five runs in the fourth inning to go up 5-2 with the contributions from a Justin Turner three-run home run to right center field (estimated distance: 379 feet), followed by a Yasmani Grandal two-run shot to center field (estimated distance 414 feet).

·  Turner, who finished the day going 2-for-4, provided the Dodgers with an insurance run in the eighth inning as he blasted his second home run of the day with a solo shot to left field (estimated distance: 364 feet). He has now recorded seven career multi-homer games and his second of the year (last: Aug. 8 at ARI).

o Grandal launched his 15th home run of the year and now has 15+ homers in four consecutive seasons. In his last 16 games at home since July 4, he has gone 17-for-50 (.340) with six runs, five doubles, three homers and nine RBI along with a .353 OBP and a .620 SLG.

· The Dodger bullpen allowed just one hit and struck out four through 3.2 scoreless innings today with Josh Fields (0.2 IP), Pedro Báez (1.0 IP, 2 K), Luis Avilán (1.0 IP, H, K) and Kenley Jansen (1.0 IP, SV, K) contributing to the efforts. Jansen recorded his 32 save of the season and has tossed scoreless relief in 13 of 14 appearances since the All-Star break, posting a 1.84 ERA (3 ER/14.2 IP).

PADRES NOTES:
· In his 21st start of the season, Luis Perdomo recorded his seventh loss of the year after allowing five runs on four hits in 6.0 innings while recording a strikeout. Perdomo dropped to 6-7 on the season with a 4.95 ERA (64 ER/116.1 IP) and has tallied 88 strikeouts against 44 walks.

· Corey Spangenberg logged his third career multi-home run game and his second of the season (last: June 11 vs. KC) with a solo shot in the first inning and a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Spangenberg, who recorded his 23rd multi-hit game of the year, has hit .294 (15-for-51) with 10 runs, three doubles, one triple, two homers and eight RBI in his last 14 games since July 28.
