1875 - John F. Powell, an Irish immigrant, becomes Justice of the Peace [story]
John F. Powell

Santa Clarita residents are in for a fun surprise at Chesebrough Park thanks to recent upgrades completed by the City of Santa Clarita.  The popular community park now features improved play equipment and several unique new features for kids and parents to enjoy.

The new and improved play area now includes bongo drums, a new Hot Wheels® track, a climbing wall, Tech Deck™ fingerboard pool, sand box, and a shape puzzle designed for kids two to five years old.  A new slide, climbing tube and swing set round out the state-of-the-art play area, which is surrounded by several new shade canopies. The park also features a new play area for kids five to 12, featuring a spinning pole, monkey bars, climbing wall, three slides, climbing ropes and rings, and a pull-up bar.  A new rubberized surface puts an extra spring in kids’ steps.

“The City of Santa Clarita works hard to provide beautiful parks and quality recreation opportunities for residents of all ages to enjoy,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “In addition to updating the play area at Chesebrough Park, the City donated the park’s original play equipment to ‘Kids Around the World.’ The nonprofit organization delivers safe play equipment to children in need in other countries, so we were happy to see the former park equipment put to good use.”

The original play equipment at Chesebrough Park was recently discontinued, which limited the City’s ability to purchase replacement parts for long-term maintenance. The new equipment will allow for easy repairs and updates, while providing new fun activities for Santa Clarita kids and families.  Several original amenities remain at the park for guests, including a multipurpose facility with picnic areas, a shelter, softball field, barbeques and green spaces.

Chesebrough Park is located at 23505 Sunset Hills Drive. For more information about the City of Santa Clarita’s recent updates at Chesebrough Park, please contact Jeff Morrison with the City’s Parks, Planning and Open Space office at (661) 286-4041. 1. They made some of the equipment so small… I’m not a fan of the new play equipment.

  2. Kelly Robins says:

Is anything ever going to be done with the rest of March Park? We have lived in Plum Canyon fifteen years and it’s still not finished.

  3. I agree, the equipment is small. Thumbs down to the makeover. The sand woodchip combo is a total nightmare.

  6. Funny. We actually search for sand parks. Other parents avoid them. Okay, we’ve got the parents opinions. But what do the kids think of the change?

Woodchip is a law now… Because with compaction, it’s supposedly wheelchair friendly

  12. I’d rather it be all sand or all wood. I don’t like the mixing of them.

  13. Kim Sloan says:

Beautiful! This is great for the kids and families. Keep up the good work City of Santa Clarita.

  14. I believe the wood chips are plastic/rubber to cushion the fall.
At least they are at my son’s school.
I have been wrong once before… lol

  16. Santa Clarita needs splash pad in there parks .

  17. Please please start adding splash pads to all the park makeovers. Thank you!

  18. Vicky Hull says:

    Splash pads are the best!

  19. I agree. March park needs some $s shared to complete and update. No parks on the canyon country side of town gets this kind of money spent on them!

  20. Hmmm… Chesebrough Park.

    No cheese. No bro’s.

    No wonder people are disappointed.
