The Transportation Security Administration is advising fans attending the 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star game at Target Field to be prepared for airport security on the trip home from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

“The airport will be a busy place after the All-Star game and TSA will be fully staffed to help travelers make it through security smoothly and efficiently,” said Cliff Van Leuven, federal security director for TSA at MSP. “All-Star fans can be part of the team effort by preparing for security before leaving for the airport.”

TSA advises that delays at the security checkpoint are most often caused by travelers bringing prohibited items in carry-on baggage. Please remember that all types of bats, including souvenir mini-bats — a favorite of baseball fans everywhere — are prohibited in the cabin of an aircraft. All bats should be transported in checked baggage.

To avoid getting in a pickle, TSA has multiple resources available to passengers to help them determine whether an item is permitted in carry-on baggage, checked baggage or not at all. For information on prohibited items, visit tsa.gov or use the TSA’s mobile app, myTSA.

The myTSA app allows a traveler to enter the name of an item and the app will provide information on how to transport that item. Regardless of whether you are a National or American League fan, you can download the myTSA app on iTunes or Google Play. The same information can also be accessed via any web browser at tsa.gov/mobile.

Passengers will hit a grand slam with TSA officers by remembering that the restriction on traveling with unlimited quantities of liquids, gels, aerosols, creams and pastes in carry-on luggage remains in effect. All liquids — including sun block and Gatorade leftover from the time-honored, postgame victory shower — must be 3.4 ounces or less, and all bottles must fit in a single quart-size plastic bag and be placed in a bin for screening.

TSA Pre(Check), which allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their compliant liquids in a carry-on, is offered in Terminals 1 and 2 at MSP. Travelers are encouraged to check their boarding passes for a notification indicating they are eligible for TSA Pre(Check). In Terminal 1, TSA Pre(Check) lanes are available at checkpoints 4 and 6; in Terminal 2, it is available at checkpoint 1.
