A Saugus teenager is recovering tonight at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital after sustaining facial burns at Pamplico Park.
Authorities at the scene indicated the boy was playing with fireworks, but sheriff’s officials were not confirming it Thursday night.
In any case, the boy suffered severe burns and a small fire erupted at the south end of the park at about 6:30 p.m.
Sheriff’s deputies had been alerted by a phone call from a witness who saw the boy running toward the park’s restroom. Deputies arrived and detained the suspect, and paramedics rendered aid before transporting him to the hospital with what appeared to be second-degree burns to his face and hands.
Firefighters from Stations 108 and 111 put out the fire. The area was cordoned off and considered a crime scene.
It is not yet known whether the boy will be charged with a crime, said SCV Sheriff’s Lt. Eric Lasko, who described him as a 14-year-old Saugus High School student.

I wonder if this is the Jerk setting off fireworks late at night setting off all the neighborhood dogs.. or if that’s another one.. Glad he’s not seriously hurt BUT.. HOPE he gets charged.. It is really too dry in the surrounding hills to tolerate this type of stupidity.. Numerous injuries, and property damage could have resulted. His parents should be looked into..or the source of his ‘fireworks’ .
Can’t blame him? It was 100% his fault. If he had not been doing stupid things with lighters and aerosol cans as you say then it would have never happened. He deserves to be charged with a crime and his parents should have to foot the bill for the Fire Dept. to come out. He was the only one involved so who else would be to blame?
Did the media tell you he was the only one involved.? Did the media tell you his reason to do what he did.? So get your facts right. Considering what I’ve heard around school, The media has it all wrong.
So he makes his own highly flammable ignition source. So that makes him a smart dumbass! Hopefully he learned his lesson! His scars of stupidity will last longer than a misdemeanor citation.
