Local filmmaker and CalArts alum David Wolter has turned to Kickstarter.com, the online crowd-funding platform, to finance a Limited Edition print run of his award-winning animated short, “Eyrie,” on DVD.

“The purpose of the project is twofold,” Wolter said. “Obviously I want to craft a thoughtfully designed DVD packed with special features, but I also want to invite people to join me on my journey as a filmmaker.”

The DVD package is being designed by CalArts alum, Nicole Josephian, who also worked on the film itself. “She’s finding ways to let the story of the film inform the design language in a way I find pretty remarkable,” says Wolter.

Included in the package is the first preview image of Wolter’s next film. All proceeds from the project, Wolter says, will go towards making his next film a reality. “I’m excited by the opportunity to connect with people who respond to the stories I tell, and share my excitement about what the future holds.”

The project has one month to reach its financial goal of $3,500.

David Wolter is a graduate of California Institute of the Arts, where he made his animated short film “Eyrie” while studying Character Animation. Wolter now works as a Story Artist for Dreamworks Animation, a job he was offered the night his film premiered. “Eyrie” also took home the Gold Medal for Animation this past July at the 2012 Student Academy Awards.
