A residential community of 499 homes is on the books to fill the gap between the Bouquet-Plum intersection in Saugus on the north, and the west end of Ermine Street in Canyon Country on the south.
The development project would tie together the city’s Golden Valley Road portion of the cross-valley connector with the county’s Golden Valley Road in Canyon Country.
Both Ermine Street and the county’s Golden Valley Road are slated for future extensions.
The Santa Clarita Planning Commission approved a tentative tract map for the housing project in 2006.
But with the downturn in the economy, city planner Patrick Leclair said, the project hasn’t come to fruition – yet.
Now the developer is asking for a four-year time extension to the tract map, which would otherwise expire in April 2014.
The developer is also asking for a slightly different layout and a different mix of single-family homes and single-family detached condominiums, but still totaling 499. The approved map calls for 96 single-family homes; now there would be 118 single-family homes and 380 single-family detached condos.
Brookfield’s market areas
The proposal goes before the Santa Clarita Planning Commission March 19.
The developer is the Calgary, Canada-based home builder Brookfield Residential, which operates in 10 market areas in Canada and the United States: Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto in Canada; and Austin (Tex.), Denver, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Diego and Washington, D.C. in the Unites States. Brookfield Residential Los Angeles, which started in 1996, has current projects in Azusa, Anaheim, Ontario, Menifee and Encinitas.
