[KHTS] – For 21 years, the Los Angeles County Fire Department has been collecting toys for needy children through its Spark of Love Toy Drive.
Kimberly Dwight, president of Equestrian Trails Inc. Corral 138, has been participating in the drive for the last six years with her organization’s Equestrian Christmas Toy Ride.
Corral 138, also known as the Barrel Springs Riders, meets at the Barrel Springs Arena in Palmdale, using trails throughout Acton and the Antelope Valley.
The seventh annual Toy Ride is coming up Saturday, Dec. 14. It’s open to ETI members and nonmembers.
There is no cost to join, but all riders must bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the Fire Department.
The ride starts in the arena across from the Vincent Hill Station Restaurant and Saloon on Sierra Highway in Acton, and all participants must be in the saddle by 10 a.m., according to Dwight.
The ride will last two to three hours.
Dwight was inspired to organize the charity ride because “people are generous at Christmas time, and we wanted to help kids,” she said.
Over the years, Dwight said they typically have between 25 and 40 riders at a time and have collected hundreds of toys.
This year, non-ETI members should remember to arrive early to fill out waiver and single event membership forms.
