[KHTS] – Just three weeks after Castaic Elementary School had its music classroom vandalized with floor stripper and a fire extinguisher, the Castaic Union School District bus yard was hit by more experienced vandals, said Jaime Garcia, the district’s director of facilities.
Between Jan. 10 and 13, the tires were taken off of five buses in the yard, causing more than $6,300 in damage.
“These guys knew what they were doing,” Garcia said. “They took what they wanted, and they knew exactly how to get them off.”
The district reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Station, and Garcia said that theft is under investigation, but no arrests have been made.
Garcia said that the Castaic Elementary and bus yard incidents are thought to be unrelated.
Bus services for Live Oak Elementary, Northlake Hills Elementary and Castaic Middle School were affected for the morning of Monday, Jan. 13, though Garcia said that special education buses were not affected.
“The last time we weren’t able to get buses out was in the 80s when we had a snow day,” he said.
District officials are currently dealing with insurance and trying to ensure that something similar doesn’t happen again.
“We immediately took some actions to secure the perimeter,” Garcia said, “and we’re still working with the Sheriff’s (Station) to help with any other security measures that we can take.”
Anyone with information about this incident can contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
