Saugus native Karis Frankian was named NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Runner of the Week.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Karis Frankian of The Master’s College women’s cross country team has been awarded with the NAIA’s Women’s Cross Country National Runner of the Week.
Frankian was chosen based on her performance during the week of Sept. 15-21, and was selected out of a pool of conference and independent award winners. This is the third weekly award of the 2014 season.
Frankian, a junior from Saugus, California, placed first at TMC’s annual home cross country race, The Mustang Challenge, on Sept. 20. The Lady Mustang clocked a time of 17 minutes and 53.3 seconds in the women’s 5K race to take first-place overall amongst 169 individuals, some of those competitors from the NCAA Division I ranks.
As a team, the 13th-ranked Lady Mustangs finished third out of 17 schools with a team score of 111 and a collective time of 1:34:29.8.
TMC trailed NCAA Division I Sacramento State and 11th-ranked Cal State San Marcos.
Other Division I schools who finished behind the Lady Mustangs in the 5K race included Cal State Fullerton and Southern California.
The NAIA’s fourth women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award will be announced October 1.
