[KHTS] The Los Angeles County Fire Department found dozens of marijuana plants Friday morning in the Placerita and Sand Canyon area, Sheriff’s officials said Saturday.

The marijuana grow was found by firefighters responding to the area just before 10 a.m., said LACoFD Supervising Fire Dispatcher Robert Diaz.

“They saw some smoke and they discovered a marijuana grow,” said Sgt. Cortland Myers with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The U.S. Forest Service is handling the incident because the plants were found on Angeles National Forest territory, but LASD Marijuana Eradication Team members and detectives were called in as well.

The investigation is ongoing, Myers said, and no suspects have been taken into custody.
