The city of Santa Clarita has been recognized by the High Desert Branch of the American Public Works Association with an award for “Best Improvement for Public Safety” for the Lost Canyon Road Bridge widening project.
The Branch represents public works jurisdictions located in Santa Clarita, Victorville, Lancaster and Palmdale.
The award was presented at the High Desert Branch of the American Public Works Association’s year-end banquet.
The Lost Canyon Road Bridge widening project was completed in May of this year. After six months of construction, the Lost Canyon Road Bridge located next to the Santa Clara River in Canyon Country, was successfully widened by 16 feet on the north side.
In addition, the project added 4-foot shoulders along both sides of the existing travel lanes to provide extra space on the roadway. A new raised 10-foot wide concrete walkway on the north side of the bridge was also added to allow residents to safely cross the bridge. The path is part of future trail improvements connecting from Vista Canyon Development to Sand Canyon Road.
The American Public Works Association is a non-profit, professional association of public works agencies, private companies, and individuals working to promote professional excellence and public awareness of public works through education, advocacy and the exchange of knowledge. I thought this project was a huge waste. And their awarding people for it? Glade to have the kids safer but, why so small of a bridge?
Nice upgrade …… for now. When the 1000 Vista Cyn homes get built, this road will not be wide enough and the Sand Canyon/Soledad intersection will be gridlock.
Haha thank you
Will there be a sidewalk or paved footpath along Sand Canyon Road under the railroad bridge so pedestrians can approach Lost Canyon Road from the south? It would be nice if children were able to walk to Sulphur Springs. The current makeshift path under the railroad track is a muddy quagmire in wet weather and is in no way accessible for someone with mobility issues.
Duh. And the “roundabout”? That’s going to make things so much better…
