Valencia’s very own Flyers Jr. A Hockey Team, once again had a successful end to the league, by remaining at the top with a 40-9-3 record that is good enough for fourth place in the league and the second place in the whole western division.
This record has earned the Valencia Flyers a first round bye directly into the semi-finals and home ice advantage for the playoff series March 23-25, 2017 at Ice Station Valencia. The Ice Station is pleased to offer free admission to every game in this best of three series, with all games starting at 7:15 p.m. and Saturday being played only if necessary. With the Thorne Cup Championship in sight, everyone is invited to get loud, pack the Ice Station stands, and cheer on the Flyers to victory.
The Valencia Flyers, a Junior A hockey team, began 16 years ago and operates within the Western States Hockey League. It offers a home to boys aged 16-21 from right here in Valencia and many other countries across the world. Head Coach Josh Berge, in his fourth season with the team, has successfully led his team to be championship contenders all four seasons in a row, and has set multiple franchise records including a first place regular season finish and the best record in team history at 45-7-0 during the 2015-16 season.
Proud owner Roger Perez began this team out of his love for hockey with the hope of offering a place for young players to learn to be their best while also nurturing the growth of each player’s character with an eye towards placing as many of these young athletes into colleges as possible. Roger Perez says “The mission of the Valencia Flyers is not only to create hockey players but to help nurture young boys into becoming strong men who will one day be leaders in their own communities.”
With a top record, a top coach, and a talented team of hockey players, the Valencia Flyers are looking to continue their journey through history and clinch the much coveted “Thorne Cup”. The semi-finals start tomorrow at Ice Station Valencia at 7:15 p.m. Free admission is offered to all planning to attend.
