Seven local veterans representing organizations that serve Santa Clarita Valley veterans – who constitute 7 percent of the nation’s population, and an even bigger percentage of the SCV – will be honored Feb. 21 in Universal City.
The event is the annual Builders Ball, a recognition dinner put on by Habitat for Humanity’s Santa Clarita-San Fernando Valley division.
The organization is building an affordable housing project for military veterans and their families, known as Homes for Heroes, on Center Pointe Parkway in Saugus, and another one in Sylmar.
The local honorees include:
Dick Jeffrey, Back to the War Zone
R.J. Kelly, Veterans Advocacy Network
J.D. Kennedy, American Legion Post 507
Jim Lentini, SCV Rotary & Elks Clubs
Chuck Morris, Traveling Vietnam Wall; Friendly Valley Veterans Club
Bill Reynolds, 9th Infantry Division, Charlie Company
Renard Thomas, Director of Veteran Affairs, College of the Canyons
Two veterans from the San Fernando Valley will be honored, as well: Charlie Hooker, M.O.W.W., SFV and Omar Bradley Chapters; and Nicolas Montano, Kiwanis Club of Chatsworth.
The event will also recognize The Home Depot Foundation, which is a major contributor to the local Habitat chapter’s veteran home restoration projects.
Proceeds from the dinner will help Habitat’s SCV-SFV division bring affordable housing and self-sufficiency to veterans, their families, and families of the fallen.
The event will be held in the Universal Sheraton’s Grand Ballroom on Friday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. RSVP before Jan. 30 by calling Sarah at 818-884-8808 or [click here].
