New artwork using an encaustic art method, also known as hot wax painting, will grace the walls of the First Floor Gallery at City Hall from July 17 to November 14.
The new exhibit, called “A Moment in Time,” features artwork of varied styles including conceptual art, abstract painting, mixed media and photography.
The community is invited to celebrate the opening of the new exhibit at a free art reception on Wednesday, July 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at City Hall.
Gallery visitors will enjoy light refreshments, entertainment, meeting the artists and discussing art.
This exhibit examines “A Moment in Time,” as expressed through the ancient medium of encaustic. Unlike other painting media, encaustic begins in a molten phase and becomes solid. The artists only have a few seconds to move the brush from palette to panel before the wax becomes unworkable. Heat is used to manipulate the paint and wax. Once solid, it has unusual light reflection qualities that can be seen throughout the layers of paint.
The works exhibited will explore the concept of time through their process or through their subject matter.
The First Floor Gallery in City Hall is located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Valencia 91355. City Hall business hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
