Starting Monday, April 16, the art gallery at The MAIN in Old Town Newhall will showcase “Shoreline Symmetry,” an art exhibition showcasing fantastical, nature-inspired digital art printed on aluminum by artist Karen Hochman Brown.
The exhibition will be on display through Friday, May 11, 2018. An art reception for “Shoreline Symmetry” will take place on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at The MAIN. Reception attendees will be able to view the artwork, enjoy light refreshments and meet the artist.
With many years of art education and experience under her belt, Karen creates mandala-like digital art that explores hidden worlds within manipulated reflections of flower imagery, using fractal geometry-based software. Each artwork starts with a single photograph Karen manipulates on her computer; importing the image into a modular graphics-synthesizer program where she pulls out specific elements from the photographic imagery, and alters layer after layer to create new compositions with kaleidoscopic-like reflections.
As a child in her mother’s garden, Karen recalls how the experience of holding her first kaleidoscope up to one eye and spinning in circles made her feel like the rest of the world magically disappeared as flashes of color and light danced through the glass. Karen now uses computer software and hardware to replicate the experience she had from the simple handmade kaleidoscope from her youth.
The gallery at The MAIN is available for viewing during all events at The MAIN, as well as Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. The MAIN is located at 24266 Main Street, Newhall, CA 91321.
