A workshop to help participants eat right and exercise is scheduled for the April LifeForward workshop hosted by Zonta Club of SCV. The free women’s workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Savia Community Center, 23780 Newhall Ave. The workshop will help participants focus on eating healthy food, create diabetic and heart healthy diets, and stretch, firm and trim.
Presenters will be McKenzie Hall Jones, registered dietician nutritionist; Rich Enriquez, fitness movement specialist; and Michelle Jones, certified Zumba instructor. Participants who come in workout clothing will be invited to participate in Zumba and movement activities.
Hall Jones operated Wild Hive, a firm specializing in agriculture, food and lifestyle marketing. Enrique owns a private studio and is active in the Fit N Run Personal Training Program. Jones is an instructor at 24 Hour Fitness.
The workshop will help participants learn how fitness promotes vitality, learn exercises they can do at home, keep the body fueled properly, and prepare delicious heart healthy and diabetic food.
Free childcare is available through Single Mothers Outreach for women who register in advance at (661) 288-0117. Spanish translation also can be provided with advance request. Participants will be encouraged to move their muscles, dance to the music and have fun! There will also be healthful food to enjoy while socializing. This is one of the most popular workshops in the LifeForward program, and always draws a capacity crowd.
Child care will be available for participants who register in advance, at least one week before the workshop at www.singlemothersoutreach.org or by phone at (661) 288-0117.
Previous workshops in the series have helped women select career options and pursue meaningful employment, work on goal setting and time management, deal with anger management, set budgets and file taxes, deal with drug and cyber bullying issues, establish a career path and get a job, and go after financial support after a divorce. Workshops are designed to help participants believe in their unlimited power and potential, build the skills necessary to succeed, and be the powerful women they are meant to be!
Zonta offers the free LifeForward workshops, usually on a monthly basis (although the series is dark during July and December), in collaboration with Single Mothers Outreach, Domestic Violence Center, Returning Women Veterans and Veterans’ Wives, and the Los Angeles County Department of Child & Family Services serving foster mothers. KHTS AM-1220 is a co-sponsor of the series with Zonta.
Workshops are organized by topics in which women express interest. A schedule of upcoming workshops is posted on www.scvzonta.org for women who are interested in a particular topic.
