Arts for Santa Clarita is looking for artists – musicians, actors, writers, visual artists and more – to participate in the next Artquinoxen event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, at Eureka Village, the home of SCV Adventure Play Foundation.
An “Artquinox” is a small, ticketed art event that presents artwork across multiple disciplines revolving around a common concern.
Audience members interacting with the work and the artists at Artquinoxen #1:Vernal Convergence at The Main, Friday, March 29.
“As artists we understand the value of play. Imitation, exploration, problem solving, imagination, creativity, fantasy – are all words we use to talk about playing or making art,” said Stephanie O’Connor, ASC board member and event organizer. “What is the intersection of art and play? Why is it important? These are the questions that provide inspiration for our 2nd Artquinoxen event, ‘To Play or not to Play.'”
Arts for Santa Clarita is looking for pieces that respond to these questions. Anyone interested is invited to contact the organization at info@artsforsantaclarita.com with a brief description of your idea/project along with a sketch or picture of the project.
Erica Larsen-Dockray, CalArts instructor and co-founder of SCV Adventure Play, elaborated, “We believe that physical and mental space for self-directed play is an essential piece of a healthy, happy life, and we’re delighted to partner with Arts for Santa Clarita to shine a light on the value of creativity and play for children and adults.”
While there is no stipend, artists will receive free tickets to the event, the opportunity to engage with a new audience, and mention on ASC’s website. The deadline to submit work is Friday, Sept. 6.
