A Look Back: 2017 Cougar Women’s Golf
After a two-year hiatus, the College of the Canyons women’s golf made it back to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships to cap another successful season for head coach Gary Peterson and the Cougars.
Canyons finished runner-up to Santa Barbara City College at the Western State Conference (WSC) Finals at Kern River golf course. COC freshmen JoJo Roecker and Gina Chung were both named to the All-WSC team.
The Cougars then carded a third-place finish at the CCCAA Southern California Championships at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course to snag a state tourney qualifying spot. Roecker placed fifth at that event with a two-day score of 157 (77/80) to represent COC’s top individual finish.
At the state championships, Canyons took the seventh spot with a two-day team score of 706 (364/342) at Morro Bay Golf Course. Roecker finished day one tied for fifth, and eventually placed ninth overall with a two-day score of 153 (77/76). That mark left her just four strokes short of earning All-State Team honors.
