1956 - Battle of Palmdale rages over the skies of Santa Clarita [story]
Battle of Palmdale

The annual Evening of Remembrance will take place on Wednesday, Aug, 28 at 7:15 p.m., in the Santa Clarita Youth Grove at Central Park in Saugus.

The event begins with the Walk of Remembrance, where participants walk together in solidarity, offering support and solace to the families who have lost loved ones memorialized in the grove.

The Walk of Remembrance will begin and end in the Youth Grove. After the walk participants will gather for a ceremony that pays tribute to the lives of these young individuals.

The Youth Grove features a central monument with the “Know More, No More” vow surrounded by simulated tree stumps that symbolize 119 lives cut short in traffic-related incidents. Names are added every August, before the annual Evening of Remembrance.

Two more tree stumps will be added during this year’s ceremony.

The Youth Grove is a grassroots effort, dedicated to Santa Clarita Valley youth (24 years old and younger) who have died in traffic-related incidents and provides a safe, centralized location for young people and community members to remember these youth.

The Evening of Remembrance is an annual event meant to remember Santa Clarita Valley youth who lost their lives in traffic-related incidents and to raise community awareness about the importance of safe and responsible driving.

This memorial is for the Santa Clarita Valley community, particularly the youth, to use and to reflect upon the unfortunate consequences of drinking and driving and of reckless driving.

Guests are encouraged to arrive around 6:45 p.m. to prepare for the Walk.

Volunteers will distribute flowers and poster board to memorialize those honored during the walk.
