It was not a good weekend for the college basketball teams in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The men and women from College of the Canyons and The Master’s College all lost.

The Master’s College men, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, lost to Vanguard, 80-76 in overtime. Vanguard outscored The Master’s College, 14-10 in overtime and made 10 free throws.

Leif Karlberg and Devin Dyer each scored 15 points to lead The Master’s College.

The Master’s College women lost, 62-49, to Vanguard, the No. 10 team in the NAIA. Lena Rivera led The Master’s College with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The College of the Canyons men lost to West L.A. College, 74-68. It was COC’s third loss in a row.

Wesley Bartole scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds for COC. Teammate Rafael Love had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The COC women lost to West L.A., 72-67. Angelica Sahagun scored 22 points for COC in the loss.

In high school basketball, the Canyon girls lost to St. Bernard, 72-31, in the third annual Public vs. Private School Shootout in Playa Del Rey.

Alia McCoy and Kali Vitallo led Canyon with seven points apiece.

At least the Saugus girls came away with a win over the weekend. The Centurions beat Marymount, 69-37, behind a big game from Kim Smither. She scored 18 points and led three players from Saugus in double figures.

Jordan Oster scored 14 and Megan Dawe had 13 for Saugus.

In high school football, the East won the 16th annual Daily News All-Star game, 31-7, over the West. Hart High receiver Tim White scored the only touchdown for the West All Stars, a 24-yard reception.

In the NFL playoffs, the New York Giants eliminated the reigning Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, 37-20. Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns.

The San Francisco 49ers scored the go-ahead touchdown with nine seconds left in regulation to eliminate the New Orleans Saints, 36-32.

The Niners will host the Giants in the NFC championship game.

In the AFC playoffs, the New England Patriots knocked Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos out of the playoffs, 45-10.

The Baltimore Ravens grinded out a 20-13 win over the Houston Texans. The Patriots travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens in the AFC championship game.

In hockey, the Kings lost to the Edmonton Oilers, 2-1 in overtime, on a power-play goal by Taylor Hall.

The Kings are 4-5 in the past nine games. They are on the ice again on Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks.
