The city of Santa Clarita invites you to attend upcoming theatre productions at The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street in Old Town Newhall. Tickets are now on sale for “Harold and Maude,” “The Little Prince,” “Trojan Women” and “27 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview.”
Kicking off July, The Tavern Brawlers present “Harold and Maude,” which is about a discontented, perpetually suicidal, young man who meets and becomes deeply attached to a free-spirited, elderly woman, in an adaptation of the 1971 cult film. Based on the darkly comedic, and ultimately life-affirming classic, the stage play of “Harold and Maude” is a nostalgic charmer that will captivate old fans and new audiences alike. Performance dates and times are July 20 and 21 at 8:00 p.m., and July 22 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students and seniors.
“The Little Prince,” presented by Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival, is a children’s play that tells the story of a world-weary and disenchanted Aviator who meets a mysterious, regal “little man.” The Little Prince shares with the Aviator his adventures through the galaxy, the individuals he meets and the unique insights he gains from them, while contemplating the big issues of life. At the end of their time together the Aviator and the Little Prince each leave with a new understanding of how to laugh, cry and love again. Performance dates and times are July 28 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and July 29 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 for children under 10, $10 for seniors and $12 for all others.
“The Trojan Women,” also presented by Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival, is a contemporary spin on the ancient tale of war by Euripides. Originally produced in 415 B.C. about the aftermath of the Peloponnesian War, it is often considered a commentary on the effect of war and those who survive. Performance dates and times are July 27 and 28 at 8:00 p.m., and July 29 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.
In August, don’t miss “27 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview,” presented by LCAZ Productions. When two college recruiters at a prestigious university need to fill one last spot to keep their jobs, 27 eccentric, dimwitted and slightly-insane high school seniors are eager to come in for an interview. What seems like a simple task turns into a nightmare as each applicant’s interview hilariously illustrates what NOT to do in a college interview. Performance dates and times are August 10 at 7:00 p.m., August 11 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and August 12 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth under 18.
