With overall crime down in Santa Clarita through May 2018, the city of Santa Clarita hosted an appreciation event for Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station personnel on Thursday.

The event took place at the Sheriff’s Station during breakfast and lunch, and also included professionals from the adjacent Santa Clarita Courthouse, celebrating the news that crime in Santa Clarita is down from this time last year.

Since the beginning of the year, total Part I crimes in the City are down 31.3 percent from 2017 numbers. Part I crimes include robberies (-23.7 percent), burglaries (-17.5 percent), grand theft autos (-39.3 percent) and larceny thefts (-36.9 percent).

“There are not enough thanks for what our Sheriff’s Department does for us here in the City of Santa Clarita to keep us safe,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Pro Tem Marsha McLean.

In order to show appreciation for all the men and women working at the station and courthouse, the day featured sessions in both the morning and afternoon. As guests walked into the event area, they were treated to breakfast in the early hours, as well as sandwiches and pizza for lunch. City and county officials, including Sheriff Jim McDonnell, were on hand to show their appreciation.

Our hardworking deputies had the chance to relax, enjoy some delicious food, listen to music and even take part in a friendly cornhole competition. In addition, all staff had a chance to win prizes from Santa Clarita businesses and individuals. Raffle winners took home items such as restaurant gift cards, theme park passes and Los Angeles Dodgers Dugout Club tickets.

The City would like to thank Holiday Inn Express, Jersey Mike’s Subs and Domino’s for providing food for the event.
