College of the Canyons men’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 non-conference loss to Cosumnes River College on Friday.
The first half opened up quickly as the visiting Hawks scored only eight minutes into the half. The opening goal came off of a free kick which was the result of a foul by the Cougars.
The remainder of the half was fairly quiet until the five-minute mark when the Cougars attempted three shots, two of which missed the mark and one was saved.
COC opened the second half right where it left off, attempting two more shots.
The energy began to shift at the 64-minute mark when play became much more aggressive. Six yellow cards were handed out, two to the visiting Hawks, and the other four to COC.
Still trailing 1-0, the Cougars recorded shots at the 76 and 79-minute mark, which resulted in a miss and a block.
The visiting Hawks took any chance of a comeback away by netting a final goal in the 81st minute.
The loss to Consumnes was the first of the season for the Cougars. Canyons will look to bounce back in its next match at Fresno City College on Tuesday. That game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
