College of the Canyons sophomore left-hander Jacob Lopez has been named the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association Southern California Pitcher of the Week for the period running Jan. 25-28.
Lopez was stellar in his season-opening start vs. El Camino College on Friday, Jan. 26.
The Saugus High School product, who issued no walks and did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, tossed 8 1/3 innings, surrendered five hits and was charged with two earned runs.
He also struck out nine batters along the way.
Lopez took the no-decision but was a key component of COC’s eventual 5-4 extra innings Opening Day victory.
